WANA (May 15) – Iranian weightlifter Ayat Sharifi claimed the title of Asia’s strongest man after winning two gold medals and one silver in the +109kg category at the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships, held in China.

 

Iranian weightlifter, Sharifi, secured the silver medal in the snatch with a successful lift of 195kg. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 227kg to win gold, and with a total of 422kg, he was crowned the overall Asian champion.

Snatch: Sharifi completed all three of his snatch attempts, successfully lifting 185kg, 191kg, and 195kg. However, he finished second to South Korea’s Hwang, who managed a 196kg lift, earning Sharifi the silver medal in this discipline.

 

Clean and Jerk: Iranian weightlifter, Ayat Sharifi, opened with a strong 227kg lift, securing him the gold medal in the clean and jerk. He then attempted 235kg, which he lifted successfully, but was ruled invalid by the jury.

 

Since his gold medal in both clean and jerk, and the total was already secured, he opted out of his third attempt. With a combined total of 422kg, Sharifi became the Asian champion in the +109kg category.
